Broken Stone Winery

ABOUT THE WINERY FOUNDED 2013

Broken Stone Winery is a terroir-driven, family-owned winery, specializing in Pinot Noir and cool climate Vinifera grapes.  Tim and Micheline Kuepfer started with little more than a dream about living in the country with their young children.  They plunged into the adventure when they purchased their 34 acre farm with three hayfields, helpful neighbours, and a thousand newly planted grapevines.  Today they have six thousand vines under cultivation and big plans for the future.

“All of us share in The Country Dream, and all of us have been learning what that entails.  We still don’t know where we will end up or how realistic The Dream really is, but we hope to share the journey and the struggle of growing grapes and starting a winery from scratch with you and have some fun on the way.

After all, life’s about the journey –  isn’t it?”

HEAD WINEMAKER: TIM KUEPFER

Needing something further to round out life, Tim became interested in Prince Edward County after hearing the buzz about its future as a wine growing region. He believes good wine is mostly made in the vineyard, and learned how to farm grapes as he went, with advice from neighbours and PECWA members. In 2013 he completed the UC Davis Certificate in Winemaking, adding technical knowledge to his skills. Tim believes in the future of the County as a winemaking region, and derives great satisfaction from nurturing delicious terroir-driven wines from vine to bottle.
